Kavita Parmar
Founder/Creative Director, The IOU ProjectKavita Parmar is a designer and serial entrepreneur. While still in college, Kavita worked as a freelance designer for international clothing brands, including Polo Ralph Lauren, DKNY and Escada. At the age of 23, she acquired the license for India of the children's wear brand Osh Kosh B'Gosh, and opened 14 retail stores. The company was later sold to an Indian conglomerate. In 2001, with her husband and partner Iñigo, Kavita launched her own label Raasta, a women’s ready-to-wear contemporary collection. Distribution of Raasta quickly grew to over 150 independent retailers and high-end boutiques. Kavita then launched a second label, Suzie Wong, a collection of women’s designer eveningwear. In 2006, the umbrella company, Maison Raasta, established its own manufacturing and logistics infrastructure assets in India and Europe. Maison Raasta, which established its flagship store in Madrid’s premium shopping district in 2009, now distributes the Raasta and Suzie Wong lines internationally and participates in important industry trade fairs including Bread & Butter Berlin and Barcelona, Who’s Next Paris, D&A New York and London Fashion Week. In 2011 Kavita launched the IOU Project, her most ambitious project to date. The e-commerce social networking platform retails one-of-a-kind clothes for men and women, which made by individual artisans around the world.
