If you’ve fallen in love with an $8,900 white lacquer campaign desk on 1stdibs.com, but lack the necessary funds, there are ways to attain it, or at least something similar. You might try calling the dealer that listed the item; in the current economy, they could be willing to bargain. If that doesn’t work, try searching the modern design site VandM.com, which carries pieces by well-known designers similar to those on 1stdibs but usually at slightly lower prices. A wood side table by Milo Baughman similar in style to one selling for $2,600 on 1stdibs, for instance, can be bought for $800 on VandM.

The Hammer Finally Gets Its Due

I have always been a fan of Mercury Glass. It reflects glam, it reflects light, and it reflects a strong memory of my home back in México. Every Christmas we displayed old mercury glass ornaments in our Christmas tree, and we used to have lots of big oversize spheres made of mercury glass around (a trend that Luis Barragan the architect initiated back in the 60's and is still a common decorating solution today). Mercury Glass is also becoming a trend in table lamps and light fixtures that can be used all year round.
