Los Amigos del Arte Popular will be holding a panel discussion of masks at The Golden California Antiques Show, “The Art of the Mexican Mask”, on Saturday October 8 at 2:00 PM. Outstanding experts will present a slide presentation and share their knowledge to better understand the rituals, history and meanings of masks in colorful festivals and holidays. Guest panelists from Southern California will include James Caswell, proprietor of Historia Antiques in Santa Monica; Peter Markman, Professor of Latin American Art at Cal State Long Beach with a specialty in Meso-America; and Jim Urston, Professor of Art at Santa Monica City College. All are longtime collectors of masks and have an extensive knowledge of the subject. Open to the public, free with paid show admission.
