Tracery

Tracery (trey-suh-ree)

-Originating as a structural requirement during the Gothic period, tracery is the ornamental stone woodwork in the upper part of a Gothic window.  Today, we see tracery as an ornamental element consisting of ramified ribs and bars–a delicate branching pattern commonly seen in Gothic windows, panels, screens and furnishings.
