Book Worms

When word got around that King of Cool, Olivier Zham’s
Purple Magazine would be opening a Purple Boutique, the excitement was palpable. First up for this online boutique, is artist Olympia Le Tan’s series, Books You Can’t Read, a collection of minaudières in the fashion of vintage book covers made from felt appliqué and silk thread embroidery. Le Tan has bags made to look like the covers of everything from Moby Dick (specially requested by Chloe Sevigny) to 1950’s novel Johnny Purple by John Wyllie. Tilda Swinton is said to also a fan of the bags, which are lined with liberty print, mounted on a brass frame and made to order at $1,500 a piece. No matter what you decide to put inside these bags, no one will be able to judge your book by its cover.
