Wendy Evans Joseph POP UP Architecture is an innovative retrospective in the form of a pop-up book. The full-color, large format book features ten of her architectural firm’s projects.
The book is an artwork in itself, and unlike the conventional architectural picture book this allows the reader to be more interactive, to touch and study the lines and dimensions of designs, to take in the mastery of the architect and the skill that went into the finished product.
Like real buildings, they invite exploration and observation from multiple angles. Joseph said that need to “re-present” the buildings, rather than merely depict them, provided an opportunity for her to reflect on her work.
She especially enjoyed seeing the original ideas that guided a building from sketch to full-scale reality, and the chance to do it all over again, albeit on a much smaller scale.
